The Lascaux Caves were closed to the public in 1963 due to a problem with green algae and an excess of calcite on the cave walls. In 1983, a high-quality partial replica was opened to the general public, and Lascaux 2 was born. Subsequently, a traveling exhibition called Lascaux 3 was created, touring capital cities around the world to showcase the prehistoric heritage of our beautiful Périgord region to the entire world.
