Mountain Biking in the Dordogne

The Dordogne is a magnificent region to explore on a mountain bike. With its many forests, limestone cliffs, and winding rivers, the scenery is simply fabulous—and as a bonus, the trail markings are perfect!!!!
At Le Val de la Marquise Campground, we go out of our way to welcome mountain bikers. We provide a water hose for washing your bikes, a pump, and small repair tools; a covered area with tables and chairs for group meals and mountain biking clubs; GPS tracks; special mountain biking maps; and a dedicated mountain biking reading corner in the campground library.

Which mountain bike should you choose for your camping vacation in the Dordogne?
Cross-country bikes are a natural fit for this hilly landscape, but a lightweight enduro bike can also be a lot of fun on some of the rockier and steeper downhill sections. If you don’t have room in your car to transport your mountain bike, no problem! Our partner, Cycl’hope, will deliver your standard or electric mountain bike right to the campground. You can visit their website: Mountain Bike Rentals in the Dordogne
When is the best time to go mountain biking in the Dordogne?
You can drive through the Périgord all year round, but the best times are still in the spring and fall.
Our 4-star campground in the Dordogne is the ideal base camp for mountain bikers, as we’re located across from a national forest where several hiking trails begin. There’s even a beautiful bike park in the heart of the forest, complete with a wooden footbridge and banked turns—perfect for honing your technique.
In 2015, the Lascaux Vallée Dordogne mountain biking area was established. In total, there are 542 km of marked trails available to all mountain bikers, from beginners to experienced riders. There are 24 loops to choose from: 4 green loops (“very easy”), 5 blue loops (“easy”), 11 red loops (“difficult”), and 4 black loops (“very difficult”).
GPX tracks are available on the FFC website:
